Calcium-activated potassium channels are channels that are gated by calcium. In humans they are divided into 3 subtypes based on their conductance: large (BK, KCa1.1), intermediate (SK4, KCa3.1) and small (SK1, KCa2.1; SK2, KCa2.2 & SK3, KCa2.3) and a fourth group consisting of KCa4.1 (Slack, Slo2.2), KCa4.2 (Slick, Slo2.1) and KCa5.1 (Slo3). Individual members of this complicated family show activation by intracellular Ca2+, Na+, Cl-, pH or voltage.
